Symposium in honor of 35 years of InterAct

We are celebrating 35 Years of InterACT, the International Center of Advanced Communication Technologies, and the 70th birthday of our Founder, Alex Waibel.

Founded in 1991, InterACT grew out of a collaboration between faculty at Carnegie Mellon University and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.  The Center aimed at improving human communication and understanding through advanced AI technologies.  InterACT grew into an international network of universities, committed to excellence in science and joint research on AI and Communication Technologies in the service of humanity.

We celebrate the past in gratitude and look to the future in hopeful anticipation.

Frontiers of science in the service of humanity

Exploring and extending the limits of our mind and the space we live in, is the privilege of scientists and academics.  How do we do it responsibly?  What new frontiers are worthy of our efforts?  In our symposium our speakers will look back at important contributions of the past and look toward opportunities for the future.  Most notably, how can Artificial Intelligence and the exploration of our planet and space serve humanity’s future and survival?
